    Kitchen Supplies

Are most apartments stocked with cups, dishes, silverware? What type of kitchen items should be shipped to the island?

It'll vary from place to place what comes included. One thing you should bring with you/have sent is a can opener. Don't ask me why, but they are really hard to find in Dominica and sell for a king's ransom if you do manage to find one. If you plan on doing any cooking on the island, there's a good chance that you'll be using canned stuff.
Then again, I like to think of anything stupid I've done as a "learning experience." It makes me feel less stupid. PJ O'Rourke.

they have a ton of can openers upstairs at james store and they sell them at various stores in portsmouth and at astaphans and IGA in Roseau. i believe it was about $15 EC at astaphans last time i went (2 weeks ago) which is roughly $5 US. they are of decent quality and works well but of course US quality (made in china) is better and it doesn't take up much space so if you feel like it you should ship one. but as said before, ship down a nice non-stick frying pan and a nice big pot so you can cook in large quantities and have leftovers for the next day. they give 1st semesters a set of tupperware (3 pieces) but if you can you should bring more with you. you'll always have a use for more of them.
