    leaving bfs/gfs kids behind..

I am currently with my gf and I am having hard time right now with trying to let her go. She keeps saying long distance is no problem blah blah blah but I know it would be extremely hard for someone in california to be in ld relationship with someone in Dominica. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this issue? Should I just break up with her cause it would be really hard to do long distance and concentrate on school or it will not be a big distraction?

I don't know why you couldn't resist posting..there was nothing informative in your response.

I was simply looking for those who have juggled this same decision to give me some tidbits of info on how they made their final decision as to move together or do long distance.

I wrote my post to provide information on how my husband and I made the distance work. In my post, I clearly stated that my husband and I learned to cherish the moments we had, not sweat the small stuff, and learned to have good communication and patience. These were things WE did to make our relationship work and things that I recommend to other couples contemplating long distance relationships. The OP asked "what are your thoughts on this issue" and I shared. Just because you didn't find anything informative in my post doesn't mean that the OP, other posters, or lurkers didn't find something helpful.

in your great experience, how obvious is it?? sometimes school is stressfull, but sometimes it IS fun...if you are looking at the next four years as drudgery, then you may want to look into whether med school is what you should be doing at all....while tough, I woouldn't have wanted to be doing anything else at the time (SOMEwhere else maybe....)

heck! med school WAS the easy part!!

I just pack up my bags and leave. If the partner can keep up w/ long distance, why not? But most important is to focus on school when you get there. Ross will fail u if u dont do well.

Can gf's/bf's come down to Dominica with you or is it just spouses/family?

The island is just the beginning of the tests your relationship will go through, if you think it's worth it, then stick it out. If not, bail - save you and your no-longer significant other a lot of grief, but keep in mind that at some point or another, if and when you do settle down with someone, you'll still face temptation/hardships. It doesn't get easier . . . Now's a good a time as any to consider how you're going to deal with temptation because, let's face it, in this profession especially, it's always going to be present. Hopefully you've found someone who'll make the decision to stay faithful easier.
I don't know If I believe Doctors are more depressed than other professions. It's possible that people who become doctors are the type of people who expect more out of life and thus are more likely to be disappointed.
Not looking for a debate or for any one agree or disagree, just thought of that and had to point that out.

As far as the OP... I say keep the girl friend and decide once you get down to the island. If she cheats, she's gonna feel pretty stupid about it when you come back a doctor
