    shark infested waters

i went kayaking yesterday and im pretty sure i saw a shark. He was 5-6 feet long and dark on the top. Does anybody know what kind of sharks are around dominica? are they man eaters?

Agreed, In the immortal words of Jimmy Buffett I would be more concerned "about the sharks that can swim on the land" if I was down there.

hahaha...i wasa divemaster at Cabrits, and they always said "dont tell the students about the sharks, they overreact and wont dive!". if you want to avoid sharks, move to idaho. if you are in the ocean, there are sharks. and yes, your odds of injury or death in dominica are dramatically greater walking along the road.

now if you dont want to be scared away from the water, stop reading, as i am going into details.
3 lemons, about 6 footers, under the PBH dock. the great white was at secret beach. hammerheads? everywhere. saw them between dominica and martinique, roseau, and the ultimate, off dublanc, a school of probably greater then 100 of them. nurses, everywhere. oh, forgot to mention a dogfish(a small shark) under the bridge walking into portsmouth.

Ah, the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle was one of the reasons I ended up here in the first place.

Needless to say, if it is my time to go, and I am forever immortalized as the Ross student that was munched by the Great White while diving after his exams, and somehow Jimmy sang at his funeral, I am a happy camper despite being dead.

The dive center doesn't want you to get bit - so relax and follow their lead.
Dive during the afternoon or later morning.
Your underwater and all movements and bubbles scare the heck out the sharks anyways.

"If it suddenly ended tomorrow, I could somehow adjust to the fall, good times and riches and son of a b's, I've seen more than I can recall."

greats usually are found in cold waters, but are known to travel all over. we got a fairly good look at it, but it was still quite far away, in about 80 feet of water. i dont know of anybody ever being bitten off dominica. statistically, your odds of being killed by a flying cork from a champaign bottle are greater then a shark attack. so be careful at graduation!!!!!!

you people are smart enough to do med school, i would think you are smart enough to knwo that where there is salt water, their are sharks. the stat i posted about champagne corks was reported on the radio, so despite all thsoe sharks, you can see that you are pretty safe in the water. be acreful on the road in front of campus though!!!
