    Student deaths at ROSS

    Advertisements

Can somebody comment on the recent 3 deaths of ROSS students?? There's not much information if it occurred on the island or back in the states. I'm a bit worried as a incoming student when you hear stuff like this and then you can't really find any info on it anywhere.

The most recent one had an insidious illness, she was in my PBL group .
No comment on anything else....Because I don't know anything else.

ummm..people die, get used to it. you never know when your time is coming. when i was on the rock we had nobody die, but we had one almost in a car vs pedestrian(he was the ped). we also had a couple who had serious health issues and left. in clinicals, i was not aware of anybody dieing. statistically, i woudl think you have less chance of dieing in dominica. less crime, less violent crime, less cars, etc. though your danger as a pedestrian is greater probably.

by the way, the guy in the blog i beleive was not a student, and he was doing/buying drugs or soemthing like that. that would definetly be soemthing that would dramatically increase your odds of death anywhere in the world.

There was one death of a medical student about 2006, that was the result of a hiking accident. Some students ignored advice, declined to hire a guide, and were caught in flash flooding and despite heroic efforts by several other students, a fellow student drowned.

Dominica is statistically overall so much safer that the urban US when comparing traffic, pedestrians and violent deaths I'd feel MORE comfortable sending my TWELVE year old daughter to Dominica with a handful of EC and a cell phone for a week than I would dropping her off at the local mall for an evening.

It is easy to navigate around campus while avoiding the main road?
By virtue of the phrasing, yes I am asking a silly incoming student question.

During my time on the island, we had a student lost at sea while kayaking after a mini. Very sad. He was well liked in the school.

As for that paragraph, that was a doctor who was here starting the METP program (teaches doctors how to teach to students) and like someone else said, there has been much talk about how it was involved with drug dealings. So just don't get involved in the Rastifarian way of life. The other student (most recently) had a serious pre-existing medical condition.

If you have ever walked in NYC, then you'll be fine here. Imagine the same level of craziness, but just with like 2 or 3 cars in the intersection instead of 60 or 70. In the morning, most traffic just stops for students outside the front gate because there are so many of us. Plus, if you live on lizard trail you'll never have to cross the street to get to school.
