Nice to meet ya JenMD. I think I will be moving to Miami around June or July. The prices are through the roof for a descent apartment in South Miami. Right now, it looks like >1000. I am coming from Virginia Beach, Va. I am 27 and a avid musician. Tell me more about you classmate. What are you really thinking right now? Have you bought the books yet? etc..etc..

Hi, I know it's not going to be cheep to live there is it. I want to find a place close enough to campus that I don't have to commute all over creation, I've done that for the past 2 year and am not interested any more. I am 28 and from Portland, OR. Currently I'm living in Corvallis, OR working as a veterinary technician just killing time until the move. I've found it very hard to work at a job knowing I'm going to be moving soon. I'm thinking I'm eager to start and looking forward to completing the program and going to the island. I did buy 2 of the books thinking that I would study up ahead of time, but after hearing advice from others I've decided to spend most of my time trying to enjoy my time before this circus starts. Hopefully we'll get others to join us soon on this thread. Have you though about financing yet? I've been reading on the other thread for the December MERP class and I think I'm going to go with Sallie Mae, I'm a little worried however due to the state of the economy.

Wel,, I am kinda lucky. I won't need a LOAN until probably the last 2 yrs. I am getting ready to separate from the military and stating August 01 2009, The GI Bill will pay full tuition, books, and provide housing expenses (1700 a month) for 36 months. I may take a loan out for small spending, like maybe 1 or 2 k each semester since I will not be working during MERP or on the island until the 36 months epires. Then I'll be looking for loans and scholarships liek everyone else. I went ahead and paid for my books already. I am a big time flashcard guy and I want to at least get my flashcards made for all the chapters before I get there. This will save me 3-4 hrs each day after class. I plan on working fulltime as much as possible to save up as much money as possible and pay off as many bills as possible before I leave. I'm leaning towards Wachovia simply becaue I have a previous undergrad loan through them and there is "history. "

I had a marine friend from Eugene, Oregon. His name was Nathan Mathis, but he is a Ducks fan and not a Beaver fan. Speaking of which, what happened to the Beavers SAT night. They had the rose bowl in their whiskers and then...they lost to those fiesty ducks. To bad, I don't want USC to play in the rose bowl.

The economy eally sucks for us right now. If we are lucky to qualify for a loan, the interest rates are going to be twice as bad before. (ie. 200k loan = 350k payback including high interest)

I am so ready to prove myself for MERP. I got MERPed due to my 22 MCAT. I got deployed days after the test and I could not concentrate due to things like "possible death", "will" etc... When I got back, I wanted to retake it but it was too late for applying to US and I did not want another year to pass by, so Ross gave me a shot. I too am 28 and ready to get my life going in a positive direction.

PS: Jen, where are the rest of our classmates? Are we the only 2? Also, stay away from these areas in Miami Lil Haiti, Lil Havanna, and Ompa Loompa or Loca or something like that) Bad BAD Bad places to be according to various sources.

    Buenos Dias,
    JR

Oh my gosh that's too funny I can't believe the Civil War Beaves VS Ducks is coming up on this type of network! I too am a Duck fan I guess, I grew up in Eugene but am now living in Beaver country. I watched the game in Eugene with my Duck family, fun but a sad loss for the poor rodents. That name sounds familiar, I wonder if I went to high school with that guy.

I got put into this program for the same reason as you. Good GPA, great experience and great LORs but a crappy MCAT. So, like you, I am just eager to start and thankful for the chance. Sounds like you've got a good situation with the financing, bravo. Hopefully the rest of us will work it out some how. Oh, I think we should start a group on facebook for our class. Have a good one!

Nathan Mathis tripped me out. He was as white as a piece of paper but acted black. I wonder if he behaved that way in high shcool. I just got my histology book. I guess the notecard making starts today. Yea! Talk to ya later duck fan. Did I mention that I am originally from Georgia and I had a bitter sweet weekend. I literally cried as Ga Tech put the nail in the coffin for my UGa bulldogs. I was happy again as the Falcons bet the chargers. FAcebook sounds like a good idea. i wonder how many people know what valuemd really is? Talk to you later Jen

MERP does not actually give you credits, it is a prep program not approved as a college by DOE. I doubt military will pay for MERP. Semester I is however approved, and you shouldn't have any trouble with that. You might want to make sure that you are correct in this.
