Failed the comp for 3rd time :( Now what?

    Advertisements

Title says it all, what are my options, what is the expected fallout? Is there an appeals process? What are my chances with that?

I didn't withdraw either, so what are my chances of transferring to another school? Which schools should I look into, and how do they react to getting dismissed. Could I call up Ross tomorrow and ask them to let me withdraw instead of actually dismissing me? I couldn't be more of a mess right now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

AUA excepts ross students, even if you were dismissed. They make you retake 5th semester in miami and their COMP passing score is 60. If you got a 60 or above o the comp and can provide proof to AUA you won't have to take the COMP again.

AUC, Xavier, Windsor are your other options.

AUC will still allow you to be licensed in all 50.

I am really sorry to hear that! Do not give up now.... you have come too far. I think you will be fine. Just get those negative thoughts out of your head and just use these resources these positive people are giving you. You will succeed! Best of luck.

The schools are listed above. My suggestion is AUC. Do not waste your time appealing or trying to re-apply to Ross. Their policy states that dismissal is permanent and especially if you were a transfer student they will not consider you for re-admission. I also passed all of Basic Sciences but they would not consider me. Don't waste your time and energy. I re-applied, went through all of the people I could with phone calls, emails, letters, etc. Many didn't bother to reply including admissions, the clinical dean and various administrative personnel. I finally got a reply back almost a year and a half later from the President saying bluntly to try another school. Just prior to that I had a conversation with the assistant director of admissions and he also laid out their reservations about second chances to transfer students as well as wanting to keep up their success stats on the USMLE. I inferred that they had so many students per class (300+ as we all know) that they prefer not to risk lowering their pass rate.

At this point your options are limited. Many of the respectable Caribbean medical schools will no longer accept students dismissed from another institution. However, many of the Ross students that have been dismissed, especially the ones in your position, end up going to AUA. From my understanding, they will pretty much accept you over the phone... It's pretty painless. I also believe AUC will still consider you... and AUC students can become licensed in all 50 states.

Additionally, if you are considering transferring to another medical school... you really need to figure out why you were unable to pass the COMP. The fact is, the USMLE step I isn't much easier than the COMP... some even think it's more difficult. So before you become further in debt, it is very important you figure out what was holding you back... before beginning medical school again. If you do that, I think you should be okay. I know a lot of people now at AUA and they're doing well. So best of luck!
