When to take step 2 CS

    Advertisements

if im applying for 2010, how important is it to have my CS by the time i send out residecy applications? i want to take it in august, so my scores wont be back until november, is that a big deal (im not planning on failing btw) ? or is it much better to have done CS earlier?

This is my opinion, and it is not based on anything but my own experience. If your step scores are low, I think its smart to have everything out of the way before Sept 1. In my case, my steps 1 & 2 are very low and CS-pass all the first time around and I have received many more invites than I can handle. I think with low scores, if eveything is a pass they know they're not taking a chance.

On the other hand, if your scores are high, it probably doesn't matter as much.

gee, i don't think anyone actually plans on filing it when they take it...

by the middle of july so you have the scores back by sept (and still have time to retake if you do fail).

A buddy of mine with scores: Step 1: 247/99, Step 2CK: 248/99, has had a couple programs tell him that they're waiting on his CS results to come back before they'll grant him an interview.

Might be an isolated incident, but it seems that good step scores don't always excuse you from a missing CS result. I'd suggest taking it before applications go out just to be on the safe side.

the sooner the better.. spots will fill up VERY quickly... i'm taking mine next week! My friends that took it 2 months ago are STILL waiting for results... 8-(
but as long as you take it BEFORE DEC 31ST the year before the match you're good to go.. otherwise they will DROP you from the MATCH.. good luck!
