    i got MERPed......................

    Advertisements

    hey kids!

so i got the call today that i got MERPed. I had applied for the jan 09 semester and they offered me the december merp. only problem is, it starts on dec 1 and that's about 15 days from now. i don't even graduate until dec 19th. i can try to get my professors to let me take my finals early but even still, that gives me 15 days to find a place to live and get everything together in miami. so i need you wise souls to give me some advice. should i take the april merp instead? i know that'll put me in the sep class which is more competitive and a bigger class in general as opposed to may. but what do yall think? will it make a huge difference if i defer? or should i just try my best to wrap everything up and get my butt to miami in 15 days?

    thanks so much, guys!

Ok. First, 15 days should be enough time to find a place to live and be set up in Miami so that shouldn't be your concern. Do you really think you can get your school finished in time to get to Miami? If you really think you can wrap your school up without problems..then do it. Don't worry about which semester you start in....as far as competitive, that doesn't matter. Ross doesn't make the exams harder for the september folks. If you know your stuff and are good at silly exams...then it doesn't matter who your cohorts are..just do you own thing. I personally wouldn't rush it. It's only a few months to wait and have everything done smoothly. When you consider the long road ahead of you 4 months is really nothing. Good luck my friend and best wishes.

several months to wait isn't a big deal.

I'm actually with Bobby Jindal over there - take your time. You'll be going full speed once you're in MERP and here. Finish school - enjoy some time off and then start up. If you start too early, you'll most likely burn out, not to mention you won't be fully prepared mentally and emotionally. You're studying ALL the time and you're away from family and friends. It's tough - I would take the time to relax, enjoy life a little bit before it turns into a living hell.

defer until the april merp. youll save yourself of this huge hassle with school and can acutally enjoy your graduation.
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

Yeah, 15 days. That's kind of rough.

If they offered me Dec 1st MERP, this is what I'd do. I'm also finishing up some classes this Fall semester and won't finish my Bachelor's until the 2nd week of December.

I'd ask to be put in the next round of MERP if I were in your position.

I got merped yesterday! I'm gonna be there on dec 1st. I heard Christmas break starts on the 19th. I was thinking of flying back a couple of days earlier to finish my finals and graduate. If thats not possible I'll ask my professors to let me take my finals in April.

if you can finish your school and take care of that then why not go to december MERP? get started asap and finish school asap i personally wouldn't want to just sit around and relax for that long. but that's just me. i can recommend some good places to live and i have a set of books i can sell you, i just finished july MERP and i'm still in miami getting ready to go to the island. personally, what's the point in waiting if you can successfully take care of your finals and school stuff early?

it is really up to the person...some like to get the MERP done quickly because it's a prep program that doesn't count towards your MD curriculuum at Ross....some like to take it easy especially during the holiday season which comes around once a year.

So, spending time with family and friends is priority to some.

Since residency starts in august, is there an advantage in starting MERP now and entering the may class vs. starting merp in april and going to the island in sept. ?
