    Hey Naziasid,

I'm heading down there this Jan from toronto also. Looking forward to meeting you.
BTW, do you know places in TO to buy shipping barrels? I called the shipping company and they said to go to Asian markets to find barrels, but i have no idea where the big asian markets are.

    Hey edymra

I haven't even starting looking for the shipping barrels yet. And they said to go to an Asian Store. I don't know...try the China town or what about Indian stores at Gerrard. Maybe they'd have it. I am not sure.
I wasn't even considering shipping barrels. I thought two of my luggage suitcases would be enough. At least for the 1st semester and then hopefully I'd head home. If you don't mind me asking what are the general stuff you'd be shipping out prior to your departure for Ross.
I have just been really stuck with getting my loans and stuff straightened out so I guess I haven't started looking into shipping.
btw did you book your ticket yet..?

historically speaking.... canadian students and especially ones from toronto have had a very high fail out rate. one of the profs during my 2nd semester said that canadian students fail at least one semester at a clip of 75%. don't know if things have changed, but probably not. i figure that any canadian coming down here has a lot more obstacles to deal with such as loans and being very unlikely to be able to go back home for residency and such. therefore, we here at ross get the less savvy both intellectually and socially, more gullible canadians that fall for the ross pitch and thus, not much can be expected from them anyway. but in any case, good luck to you all.

    Naziasid,

I'm traveling with my wife and 1 year old, so we plan on shipping baby stuff, food, maybe some linens, towels, toys. Food items on the island that are imported from the US are much more expensive there, so thats why we're shipping some of the items we use a lot. I figure it will save us money in the long run.

I booked our tickets already. if you haven't done that yet, that should be a top priority because you'll be traveling at peak season and prices will go up.
We're flying Air Canada to Barbados and then Liat to Dominica

I agree with Closter- Everyone has anxiety about getting loans and nobody gets to practice wherever they want to. Nobody looks down at Canadians for these reasons. As for us being gullible, i have one thing to say to Americans- WMD

did you just say "WMD" to point out that us americans are dumber than canadians? wow! that is not right! i respectfully ask that you edit your post. you are, after all, coming to MY country to get a job. how about you have more respect for us? if not, you are more than welcomed to stay in canada and leave our residency spots to us.

    Hi there,

When it comes to shipping down here, go with Tropical Shipping and you do not have to actually use barrels. Any boxes will do. I shipped 4 huge boxes down at the beginning of my first semester and 11 boxes in second. I have friends that have shipped stuff down in giant tupperware containers. As long as it won't break en route, you're good to go. I shipped food, clothes, books, kitchen supplies, toiletries, anything I could think of that would make life easier down here. Speaking of it being easier down here, most Canadians have it pretty good when it comes to the school part of Ross. I have a stellar gpa and there are many other Canadians in my class who have been just as successful. Something to do with how our undergrad degrees are structured... Anyway, don't start worrying about any of that now. Just enjoy your last few weeks of freedom, get all your stuff together, and come down ready to work. I am almost done 4th semester, so if you have any other questions about how to manage things from the Tdot (home sweet home!!), let me know. Good luck!
