    Need advice

I plan to purchase used books for the first two semesters from amazon.com and ship them in a barrel with the rest of my stuffs. Any pro's and con's with this plan. I'll really appreciate any input. thanks

You'll save money if you just buy used books from other students once you get to the island. You should be shipping in your barrel stuff that you cannot find on the island and absolutely cannot do away with (eg a certain brand soap, certain favorite foods, etc). Also, once you get settled into the semester and have an exam or two under your belt, you'll find that what you need to do well on exams are the handouts they give you. The textbooks are just nice to have for reference. For example, I never used that thick physio book, nor did many of my friends. Best to just wait until you get to the island in terms of buying textbooks.

the truth is i prefer making sure that at least i have secure the required
books prior to starting the semester. There is a possibility that you might not get all the books you need from upper classmen when you get to the island, but would rather end up resorting to the bookstore.

theres a lot of books you just dont end up using. and the library does carry most of the books that you can use through out the semester, just choose wisely.
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

Thats not a bad idea to ship in a barrel as it will save you a ton of money. Just calculate accordingly since it takes about 3-4wks for the barrel to go from your home till its delivered to your apartment on the island

don't forget to consider when the list of books will be released and how long you may have to wait to receive them.

I know it seems scary, but you really can find ALL the books you could ever want/need here. There really is no need to buy books before you come. I got all the required books and some of the suggested for less than 200 EC when I got here. That even included a dissection kit and some gloves.

I bought all my books on Amazon and just had them ship it there, but then again, I didn't have a barrel. It was cheap shipping though. You definately save money by doing it through amazon. Before you buy every book on that stupid list, do a search on here. I know I've posted about what books I thought were important and many others have as well. I think I only had about 2 or 3 real text books (besides BRS and First Aid) for the first 2 semesters. Save yourself the time, money, and hassel of buying 30 extra pounds of books you'll never use.

    thanks for your postings.
Another question though, has the book listing change much over past semesters?. Or i can just get new editions of the books and i should be ok. Ross hasn't release the new list yet.
