    lor and eras number

    Advertisements

Is it true that you need your eras number in order to ask for a letter of rec.? I am on my first rotation and was told that I needed the eras number..and since I don't have it...I will have to wait. I don't think I can sign up for eras yet...right?

you dont absolutely need it, but it significantly delays the processing of your letter if you don't have it

    eras number = aamc number
if you took the mcat, its the same thing
if you didnt take the mcat, you have to wait

You won't get your AAMC # until you register with ERAS during July of the year you want to apply for the Match. So, you can either go ahead and ask them to write your letter when you finish the rotation and then save it on their computer or wait until then to ask them to write it. The advantage of asking now is that you are fresh on their mind, and they can make the letter very personal so that it stands out. They only have to update it with the number later. Most people know how ERAS works.

Is it true that it is the same number as your MCAT number? If that were the case could you not have them write the complete letter now, and just have them mail it in July?

Also, check with the med ed secretaries. They will sometimes keep the letter for you and send it once you have your ERAS account / number set up.

I did ask the med. coord. but she says that the lor can't be written without the AAMC#... but logic tells me that a lor would/should be written now since I have just finished my rotation pretty strong ( I think ). So, should I just by past her and speak with my attending? Any suggestions on how to do so? Thanks everyone

    Lor

Sree is absolurley right. Since you are attending Ross, you probably have taken the MCAT. If you did, you have an AAMC #. Its the same as your MCAT #.

What I did was, give my letter writer the instuctional letter (If I remenber, you can print it out from the AAMC or ECFMG website) and addressed envelopes. One to the ECFMG, one to my school and an 8x11 envelope addressed to me. Then I had them seal up all the letters and send them to me. After July 1 this year, I forwarded the letters to the ECFMG and my school. This was for letters that I had written before I was able to register with ERAS. Later letters were sent direct. This worked really well. Give it a try.

if you dont remember your mcat # how do you go about getting it again?
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

    Aamc #

I'm pretty sure you can get it by going to the AAMC/MCAT webite and either try to re-register for the MCAT or retrieve your old scores. Try going to this, Testing History (THx) . In any event, you should be able to dig it out by fishing around the site. I did it a while ago so it can be done. I just don't remember exactly how.

I was wondering if you are going to use your AAMC # that you were given during your MCAT registration, then they are able to see your MCAT grades and results so will this effect you?

what if you haven't written MCAT and already asked a LOR. I will be applying to 2010 match. I already asked my attending to write me a letter. I gave her the ECFMG LOR guidelines letter. My attending has finished writing it and she informed me that she will mail me the letter in couple of days. I also sent her my waiver to view the letter. Is this LOR completely voided/junk??? I really don't want to bug her again next year to write me the same letter.

    What do i do?
