    Casa Blancha Apts

    Advertisements

Hi. I will be starting in Jan 09 and my student
coordinator suggested i secure housing before i get there. Can anyone please tell me about these apts?.
They look pretty good in the pictures. How far are they
from both the campus and the annex?.

    Thanks

Make sure it is on Lizard trail or VERy close to the school on Banana trail. The best bet is to seriously come to the island EARLY (like just after christmas since you're starting in Jan), then arrange for the housing dept to take you on a tour (those ladies there WILL take you). Ideally, if you're there early enough, you will have enough time to take a day to look at the stuff the housing dept shows you, then a second day to walk around on your OWN and look at places that were NOT shown to you.

The housing dept will show you places that they have special arrangements with (remember, read my previous posts about how EVERYONE on the island is related to someone else, and the housing dept ladies will show you stuff that their aunt or cousin or whomever owns only, and it is a very biased tour).

That way, you have time to see the other places that are equally or much nicer, possibly more competitive price-wise and no ties to the lady at the housing dept. Plus, by after christmas, ALL the old 4th semester students have already left the island/apartments, so you get a good selection well before your counterparts. Then take a few days to vacation on neighboring islands and come back to Dominica a few days before school to chill out and explore while everyone else is scrambling to find hell-holed apts and trying to buy laptops full-price from the crookstore (bookstore).
    Good luck.

The owners are shady at that place. I used to recommend it until i spoke to two students, one who I knew personally, who were evicted by having the locks changed on them and one person came back after break to find a new tenant moved in and all of his personal belongings moved out. I highly do not recommend this place! I recommend Dr. Grell's apartments (both new and old - lifestyle galleries), avies, frobelia, flamboyant, etc.
