    so I have been hearing commercial about Ross on radio last few dayas

    Advertisements



    Anyone else has? Ross is investing tons of money into this. It was on KISS FM in LA area and they been airing it for last few days. Pretty funny hearing someone talk about Ross and how Ross students get more resident spots in US then any other med school in the world.

    lol that is funny, but honestly I don't know if I feel good about ross being advertised like American Career College or ITT Technical institute. What does the voice sound like? I hope its not a slang riddled pitch trying about "how you need to get off the couch, do it right now, call 1-800-Ross U and get your life on track by exploring rewarding careers in advanced patient management" sound bite.

    Yeah, it's schlocky, and the first image that comes to mind is local vocational schools with a list of programs that streams by at the end: "Marine Diesel Technician" "HVAC Certification"...etc... But to me, it just doesn't seem like an efficient way to reach your target audience.

    Who are they trying to attract? Desperate college seniors and post-graduate types.... Advertise online, pepper campus depts with pamphlets and continue to rely on word-of-mouth (which I guess could bite them, given some of the opinions out there). Or, hey... spend that cash on stuff that will enhance Ross' reputation (better clinical spots, or..... I can't believe I'm saying this..... financial aid for students who may be a tad overqualified and who could be convinced to come to the Rock).

    Anyway you slice it, I'm not looking fwd to doing a rotation and having someone ask me if "that's the school from the radio ads?"

    A medical school does not need to advertise itself on the radio or on the television. It should be able to succeed on it academic merits.

    If Ross is beginning to advertise itself should we begin to get concerned that their credentials are slipping and students are realizing it and they are no longer attending Ross as much as they use to?

    I certainly hope this is not the case because I wish to go to Ross!

    Don't forget who owns Ross...DeVry. I remember seeing commercials 10 yrs ago about how DeVry changed the life of Hector Gonzalez with his associates degree as a aeronautical technician.

    If they open their commercials with "just get off the couch", then it will be time to panic

    I think we're looking wayy too far into this. I haven't heard this commercial myself, but I doubt the ad was anything other than "Apply today or request a brochure to Ross U. School of Medicine. . . blah blah which produces more doctors than any other American med school". It doesn't sound much different than the online ads you probably see under this post. Plus, it's in LA, probably the 2nd largest feeder area for Ross and SGU in the first place, everyone's heard of or knows someone at Ross, this is just trying to get some more exposure of the name trying to compete. Anyway, I'm sure I hear more people talk about Ross (and SGU) sitting in a Hindu Temple or Indian dinner party with my parents, so maybe that's where they should advertise more if they want more students and more money! haha

    A radio ad campaign is embarassing... but come on, next semester we are opening a campus that essentially allows 3rd and 4th semester students to get their education online through a program disguised as an "honors program" of sorts. Should we really be surprised that Ross is trying to recruit this way? I can see it now... during the commercial break of some lame mid-day talk show a 30 second schpeel about Ross University as 30 different possible medical specialties scross quickly across the screen lol

    I think Ross is a great school, it is just really annoying to see the directions things may be heading in the next 5 years or so.

    The radio ad is advertising the upcoming Ross Seminar in LA. I heard the same spot when they had the seminar in Tampa. I think that this is a little different from a "get off the couch" advertisement since it is just spreading the Ross name around a bit, but I may be wrong.
