    Temporary Withdrawal Status and Residency???

    Advertisements

    Hello,

I had a question on the temporary withdrawal status. I will be taking Step 1 soon. The deadline for me to take the exam is November 30, 2008. I was planning on taking it sometime in mid November.

However, by taking it in mid-November, my score may not come back in time. According to the Ross timeline, you have to begin clinical rotations by December 1, 2008 or you go into TWD status. So that means if I get my score back past December 1st, then I will be in TWD status.

For anyone that has been in TWD, has this had an impact on getting the residency you wanted, or has it affected you in anyway? I really want to know if this will have any serious consequences on my career.

    Thank you so much.

    hi!
I am in the same situation as you. I cant even start studying for another month due to personal issues. This means that I will not take the step until January.
I spoke to someone in NJ today. I was told that the temp. withdrwal status does not appear on your transcript. They said that only if you withdraw or go over a year without taking the step, then it will show.

But I need to speak to more people in Jersey. Earlier, I had spoken to sombody who told me that I will have to apply for LOA if I cant take the step by novmeber!
I will try to contact Dr. F by monday. I would trust his words more.

But anyone else who has experience in this manner, please shed some light on this.

I spoke to someone in NJ, and they told me, that it all depends on when you took the comp, for those who took it in Sept, you have 6 mons, ie till march 31st, to take the step for the first time, or you'll be put on withdrawal status.
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

it'll show up, you'll have to reapply with admissions, and youll have to disclose it.

So after reapplying and being readmitted, does it show up on the transcript? And do you know if it has any consequences for residency? Thank you.

That's just the window to take it. My understanding is that unless you start clinicals by dec 1 (regardless of when you passed the comp) you will go into TWD because the "vacation status" goes from the end of AICM. I took the comp in August and will go into TWD even though I'm taking the step in november. I would call again to clarify.
