can we avoid gaps by moving around to whichever clinical spots are available meaning maybe not doing them all in NY, etc. or is the situation inevitable

If you're doing cores in NYC there's no reason to have to move around. Gaps are very easy to fill with electives. Most electives are simply what you make of them. There are only a handful of electives that actually require work and/or time eg. Urology at Wyckoff, just about any ER elective, anesthesia at Wyckoff to name a few. Don't worry about it too much. As soon as you see a gap in your schedule, call the appropriate administrator to get an elective scheduled. Some good ones that don't wear you to the bone: Hem/onc Wyckoff, Neuro surgery at St. John's Caritas, Anesthesia at St. Johns, Neuro at Wyckoff, Amb.Med at Wyckoff, any Radiology elective, try and get some that deal with whatever your interest is. If IM, then any of these would be beneficial. Hope this helps. BTW, you DO NOT HAVE TO CONTACT ROSS before scheduling electives. Just get them scheduled and call your advisor to update him/her on your schedule. Remember to not let a gap exceed 5 weeks.
