    Surgery Shelf Study Help

    Advertisements

Hey, Not sure what section to put this in. Just wanted to know what people thought of the Surgery Shelf, and what is a good book to read for it. I have essentials of surgery, but is a little dense. Also boards and wards, and surg recall. Let me know what you all think.
    Thanks,
    RJ

You are probably one of the first Ross students to actually take a clinical shelf exam, so I don't know if this forum is of any help. I'm impressed that they actually came thru with their plan to get the shelf exams! Only 3-4 years too late

so are the shelves in all core rotations or just certain ones?
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

There are shelf exams in all of the Synergy cores. I don't know if that is Ross' idea or
Synergy's. I don't know if any of the other Ross sites are going to have them or not, although I had hear that was going to be the case.
Then again, I like to think of anything stupid I've done as a "learning experience." It makes me feel less stupid. PJ O'Rourke.

As of this past Monday, Dr. C said only Synergy rotations had shelves but they were trying to get all of them to have it. At Ross' rate of getting new plans implemented, all cores should have shelves by about 2031 but the grading policy with shelves will change every month from there on just as it does on the island.

I was in the first group of Ross to take the surgery shelf at Synergy...I felt it was way too much IM in those questions and Since I haven't done IM yet I tanked pretty bad on the shelf...60...avg for the test was 62. but then i know the next batch avg was in the 70's.... we could've been a bunch of morons for all i know...
I used Blueprint until I realized that it's useless, then i moved on to Kaplan which was decent...but looking back, the section u wanna look at is GI/Hematology/Electrolytes/Cardio in the Kaplan IM book...and surgery pre-test was also very helpful
    hope that helps
