Overwhelmed ! I think, not sure.

    Advertisements

    Argghhhhh !!
I think I am ready to take on med-school along with it's rigors. But I keep finding myself overwhelmed with what is about to happen in little over a month's time: Classes starting. My latest mantra is: "It has been done before and it will be done again." But still I am getting psyched out. Usually getting psyched out helps me take on an enormous task and see it to completion. I have over come adversity in life before but it seems more and more that this might be the harderst thing yet. Surely, I won't feel that way once I am done, but I am not there yet.

So, the point being, I am hoping to hear from others on the subject and other situtations. I guess I am looking for a little inspiration. Anyonr who is not afraid a piece of self with others is welcome to respond.

Its not uncommon. LEt me give you the best advice I wish I had: Do not let other people's anxieties get to you. Others will be stressed, whiney and predicting the sky is falling. Just detach yourself from that, remember the millions of people who've gone to medical school before you and that they're not all smarter than you, and you'll be fine.

    intelligence isn't the problem.

Dr. Piva said we need four things to succeed in medicine:

    1- average intelligence
    2- will power
    3- sense of humor
    4- love of your patients

I asked what if I have plenty of humor but no will power.
    Someone answered "then you're screwed".

Of course I don't have that much will power.
That's how I ended up down in a FMG after all.

The real mystery is, as the goof that I am, can I still make it.
Only time and a quarter of a million dollars will tell.

MedNoir, if you've traveled to a third-world country away from home, you have the will power to make it. Keep working hard and you'll be fine. Love of your future patients makes up for deficiences in the other areas.
