    Ross Loses NYC

    Advertisements

My friend attended a public meeting (Health and Hospitals) in NYC last night. It looks like SGU has signed a 10 yr contract with 11 NYC hospitals. The deal would give SGU exclusive use of all clinical spots targeted for use by foreign med schools. This move would squeeze Ross out.

I'm trying to get more info.

Ross is already experiencing a shortage of clinical spots! This could really mean trouble for those of us applying now.

Ross has 19 NYC hospital affiliations listed on its website, do you mean ALL of those will be gone?

    Please keep us posted.

If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

I cross referenced the list of hospitals between SGU and Ross and there are 6 common to both schools per their websites. The remaining hospitals and clinical facilities listed on SGU's site but not on Ross's totals 11. Maybe they just renewed contracts with those 11 and they never had anything to do with Ross.

(I am a little bored today, sorry, I had nothing better to do!)

This is very bad news. I remember reading a thread started by Dr. P stating that Ross was expanding its clinicals in NY and NJ. This is expansion?

    I don't think so

Ross will never allow this to happen. Remember, Ross is has the most powerful financial backing of all the schools, not SGU. SGU just signed their existing contracts. Remember this, when everyone else has fallen Ross will be the last one standing. Not because it's the best but the most powerful.

This is hearsay unless you can provide a link or some proof... there are plenty of hospitals in NYC who have affiliations with Ross, not to mention SMU, MUA, AUC, etc. And some of those affiliations are newly signed within the last year. You mean to say that SGU singlehandedly crowded out all other schools from every hospital in NYC? Crazy. You know how many spots Wyckoff has alone?

Also, hospitals and HCO's have individual agreements with schools... the NY Health department has nothing to do with hospital affiliations, only licensing.

I went to the HHC (Health and Hospital Corp) site to find out which hospitals would be impacted by the contract with SGU:
    Bellevue
    Coney Island Hospital
    Elmhurst Hospital
    Harlem Hospital
    Jacobi
    Kings County Hospital
    Lincoln
    Metropolitan
    North Central Bronx Hospital
    Queens Hospital
    Woodhull Hospital
