The numbers floating around right now are rumors. If you wait until the end of the coming week, the 1st semester PBL group list will be sent out...maybe then one of the 1st sem students can come on and let us know.

It is still hard to tell the number for the "entering" class b/c there are a lot of repeaters. I have heard that there were about 140 repeters added to the class. But like what was previously mentioned, you cannot really know since rumors are the cup of life around here.

Right, to be certain you would have to compare the May 07 list against the Jan 07 list to remove the repeaters. I think I'll do the honors once the list comes out.

In any case, I really don't think the number is as high as 140. If I had to guess, I would put it at half that number.

Last Semester there were only 48 people signed up for cognitive skills for repeaters (a REQUIRED class of all the repeaters). This info is first hand from the person in charge of cognitive skills.

The 2nd semester PBL list went out today. There are 366 people in 2nd right now, 17 of which are repeating.

The current 2nd semesters started with 440 people in Jan 07. A little math says that 91 people from the Jan 07 first semester class did not make it to second. Of that number, I can't tell you where they are (repeating or not) without looking at the May 07 first semester list...but I don't care enough to do that.

91 students did not make it to second term? That is a huge #. Is this typical for Ross?

You must remember some students withdraw even before mini 1 because they do not like the island or realize they do not want to be in medicine. After semester 1 the drop out/repeat rate drops significantly. Do not let those numbers scare you. Through buying back books we have met many people who say 1 of 2 things when they leave early in the 1st semester, 1. I hate this island and I have transferred/thinking of transfering to OR 2. I do not like medicine and have changed my mind, I no longer want to be a doctor. This adds significantly to those numbers.

Still that could not account for 91 out of 440 (>20%). Majority of medical student are not likely to say ďoh well I donít like the island" or "I donít want to do medicine anymore". When someone is willing to take a debt of over $200 k and is willing to put the time and energy, it would be naive to say that they did not consider all these aspects before. The problem clearly lies in the admin section of ROSS, either they recruit a large number of students who are not capable of dealing with a medical curriculum or they are inefficient in their teaching.

I am not here to fight and I did not say a large majority, I said some. Please read more carefully next time before you try to argue.
