    Hello...

Hello there! My name is Joel, and I'm from Houston. Pending a successful interview, I, too, will be starting at Ross this fall. I was a bit nervous about Texas licensure after reading some earlier posts, but I believe much of the earlier difficulties have been cleared up now that Ross has received approval from the Board of Medical Examiners. I am still optimistic about Ross University, and, ultimately, my future medical license here in Texas. Thanks to other posters, we may be able to avoid potential pitfalls (ie. completing a rotation at an unapproved facility). I am especially appreciative to the esteemed gentleman from UT-Houston who shared his experiences regarding a Pediatric rotation in California.

Please feel free to drop me a line (that applies to all readers) through this website.

    Best of Luck,
    Joel

I'm from Texas, too, and want to practice there when I'm finished. (I'm a second semester now.) From what I've heard from various sources, when clinical time comes around, just be aware that not all of the rotations offered to us are approved for Texas licensure. I was a little worried about that, too, but I think that if we let our clinical advisor know our goals they will work with us. I'm remaining hopeful anyway!

I currently live in Fort Worth and am applying for Jan 08. TXdoc I agree with what you said about keeping your advisor aware of your goals but (I'm sure you know this) keep checking and double checking the rotation locations etc. don't just rely that because you informed your advisor of your plans to practice in Texas that they are taking care of it. The responsibility lies with US! I'm a mom and I worry ..........

Even if Texas does not grant you a medical license, you can still practice in Texas if you join the VA staff or become faculty at a Texas medical school. Lots of ways around not being licensed in Texas to where you can still practice there.

I am from Houston and I shall matriculate into the fall semester. I leave on the 20th. I spoke with a lady at the Texas Medical Board and she told me 1. "we now accept Ross grads" and 2. "there is no likelihood that this will change in the near future."

There is no other place I would practice than Texas. That is why i chose Ross. Good luck to all of you.

BrandonG, congrats on getting into Ross. But stay on top of where you do your clinical rotations during the 3rd and 4th year. Texas has rules on greenbook etc that you MUST abide by if you want to practice in Texas (Unless you do as Chianti pointed out). These are guidelines for anyone who wants to practice in Texas regardless of the medical school. Sure the TMB accepts Ross grads and that is great because Ross has shown that their curriculum is substantially equivalent to US schools. But just because you graduate from Ross does not mean you can automatically practice in Texas, you must still meet the various other components such as greenbook rotations.

PS, I agree, there is no place like TEXAS and I choose Ross for the same reasons you did, I am going HOME to practice medicine!
