    Loans ? Financial Aid ?

    Advertisements

Hi, I am still awaiting for Ross, and I've become a bit concerned that if I were to become accepted, how would I pay for this?

To those who know, if I apply for financial aid, would that be free money? Like the kind you don't have to pay back? Sorry if this is a stupid question but currently in my undergrad I have received financial aid in which I don't have to pay back and this all comes from the FAFSA online application. If anyone has gotten this can you please just let me know how?

If that is not possible, what type of loans are given? Will the FAFSA website give us a list of loans in which we could choose from? I want to hear the loans that you guys have taken out to pay for Ross, and Why?

You have 3 options and you can choose 1 or all three (one loan alone will not be sufficient to cover all expenses though):

    Stafford Subsidized Loans: No interest

    Stafford Unsubsidized Loans: Interest

    Graduate Plus Loan: Interest

These loans need to be paid back and the Stafford Unsubsidized and Graduate Plus loan accrue interest while you are in school.

Go to rossmed.edu.dm to read about financial aid and available scholarships.

I do not believe there is any financial aid available that you will not need to pay back for attending Ross, other than applying for one or both of the 2 scholarships.

For Stafford and Gradplus Loans - stay away from Student Xpress. They have subcontracted Great Lakes to process those loans. After you apply loan paper goes to Great Lakes, and Student Xpress will direct you to Great Lakes for all questions and will not provide any help.

Great Lakes - looks like they don't know the process, and it is delay after delay. You will be lucky, if you get your loans processed on time and get your refund check. Great Lakes requires you to apply, sign and send separate promissory notes for each semester and each loans, i.e. total 9 application and promissory notes for 3 semesters. They don't respond to your questions, and you don't get to talk to same person each time - it is like passing the buck.

Unlike Sallimae, they don't have any online application and signing of promissory notes either. You will not get Student Xpress advertised discount like waiver of the points, etc.

There are several loan providers that offer student loans to those who are getting a medical degree abroad. Ross can probably name a few for you.

Doesn't hurt to ask...................if the answer is yes I'll be in line right behind you..........

Realisticly you're looking at $210K+ that you will have to pay back someday with interest. (My kid started in Jan '03, graduated June '06, so the $210K may be out-dated)
