Only been here a couple of days but so far I've been very impressed. It is on the pricey side compared to other places, 900+ for a 1 bdr, but you do get what you pay for. The landlady has been extremely helpful, gave us phones, a tour, and took us grocery shopping. She also has given us many recommendations for reliable people and businesses in the area. The complex is actually a series of nicely maintained and fairly updated 1 bedroom duplexes and then 2 bedroom stand alones. A very lush surrounding with fruit trees right outside to pick from and the river runs along side of the complex (you can constantly here the running water in the bedroom , which I really enjoy). Imagine a campground with cottages in the middle of a rainforest and that could sum it up. The bathroom has a extremely large shower and the internet has a decent speed. It's about a 10 minute trek to Ross, but only 5 to the annex. Down sides are the price obviously, and it's a tad of the beaten path so that could be a concern for walking home at night, but they do have a security guard walk around at night. The walk isn't terrible but in the rain it could seem like an eternity. For the price you could find a crummy apt right by campus but I would much rather walk a little and come home, where I do my studying, to a much more serene atmosphere. I'll give an update after I've been here longer but so far I'd give it a 8.5/10.

    update?

Can you give us an update on your apartment? It sounds nice. How has the walk been? Any problems? Will you be staying here your remaining semesters? Is laundry/maid service available?

    Thanks!

Apt was very nice, maid service once a week and laundry is available whenever, no problems the whole semester. Electricity went out a couple times and generator was turned on quickly so that was nice. Walk is not bad, but not great either. Overall pricey but very nice/unique and would recommend.

Any landlord troubles? How far away from the annex & main campus is it?

    Thank you!

Landlord is great, very accessible. Once you get to the main road it's half way between the Annex and main campus but it's at least a 15 mins to either, so while not terrible, it's not very close and for the price you pay I'd rather be closer to campus.

Kootney is one of the best

I lived at Kootney for all 16 months on the island and thought it was a big reason why i was really successful.

Its far enough away from all of the morons that go to school at Ross that you have your own peaceful environment. Some people may complain that its too far away, well walking at max 30 minutes a day roundtrip shouldnt be too big of an issue since you are sitting down for the the other 15 hours that you are awake inside of a classroom. If it is you need to reevaluate how you are using your time. Especially since at night there are free shuttles to take you to your doorstep and De Champs will pick you up where ever you live...

The apartments are some of if not the nicest available for students. People who say otherwise have never made it back to Kootney to see it for themselves and are just relying on word of mouth. The Shower is insane. I will leave it at that. Also there's a generator and huge BBQ Pavilion for everyone to use. I lived there for 16 months and still dont know what a centipede looks like and only ever had the company of a gekko or 2 which was awesome since they ate any mosquitos that came out. The water never really turns brown unless its an extreme rainstorm unlike a lot of other places as well....

I think the fact that ValueMed has bad reviews on Kootney is funny and it helps to keep all the whining and complaining people out of Kootney, which makes it awesome for all the people like myself and the 6 other friends that moved back there over our 4 semesters... If i were to go back again i would live at Kootney w/ Trish and Angus

Does anybody know what the security deposit is here? I emailed (and tried calling) them, but haven't heard back.
I really would like the live here!
