Do they require any particular medical certificate? If not, you can simply get it in your home country, just ask your GP to make a paper telling that you don't have any serious conditions and chronic diseases. And translate everything into Romanian. That's it.

    Hi Jaqu

All you need is a letter from a doctor stating that you are 'physically and psychologically fit to study in medicine in Romania'. It does not need to be translated if its in English.

    Hi Guys -

Does the original medical cert have to be legalized by Hague Apostille? I live in a EU country. Thanks.

Yes it does but legalising and apostilling are 2 different things. You need to make 2 photocopies of the original medical letter and legalise them. After they are legalised, you get them apostilled.

    Thank you umz_786

But I'm a bit confused here. I've always thought that you should only get Apostille on the ORIGINAL document. And only after that you go to the Romanian Embassy to legalize the COPIES. As far as I understand, however, you are saying – first, legalizing the COPIES with the Romanian Embassy and, second, apostilling the COPIES. It seems like there are two ways of doing the whole thing. Would be the both ways correct?

It is very confusing. Let me explain the legal processes first

Legalising - When you need to verify that the photocopy of a document is the legitimate version and has not been changed in any way
Apostilling - When a document in one country can be used in another country for legal purposes (such as a visa application)

The ministry requires a set of documents which include the passport, birth certificate, high school diploma and doctors letter. With the exception of the doctors letter, I doubt you will want to send the original version of the other documents. If we are stupid, we will send the originals, then we can just apostille them and apply! But we arent stupid enough to send originals through so we make photocopies. Those photocopies now must be legalised before being apostilled so that the apostille service and the romanian ministry know that the document that was apostilled was a legitimate copy of the original. Do you understand?

    Legalise FIRST, then apostille

So this means legalizing and notarising are the same thing?

Yes they are. Notarising is done by a notary public but they are hard to find and charge a lot. Legalising can be done by any solicitor or lawyer and is generally cheaper.

Be aware that this can vary substantially from place to place. Try bringing a "legalized" document to an administrator in Bulgaria when they asked for a "notarized" document, and that thing will be thrown back in your face faster than you can say "Честита Баба Марта."

Apostilles, of course, are a completely different animal... and they must be attached in the country where the document originates. No foreign entity can place an apostille on an American birth certificate, for example.
