What are my chances of getting a residency?

I went to SGU a few years ago and failed Step 1 multiple times and was dismissed. Then I didn't do anything for 4 years and now I just finished my first term at AUA and didn't do very well. What are my chances of getting a residency?

Really depends on what "multiple times" means.

The attempt limit on the USMLE Step exams are changing to 4 from 6 effective 01/01/2021. https://www.usmle.org/attemptlimit.html

Approximately 20 states have some sort of limit on how many times you can take a Step exam before you can no longer be eligible to obtain a medical license in that state. Most commonly, 3 attempts per Step exam (but there are a few which permit only 2 attempts). It is unlikely you would be able to obtain a residency in those states in which you have exceeded the attempt limit simply because you wouldn't be eligible for a medical license in said state.

I can't speak for residency directors because I am not one, but given that you have the huge red flags of a prior offshore school dismissal and multiple failed Step attempts, you NEED to do well. More so than any of your classmates/peers.

you are in a difficult position and you have invested considerable time, effort and money being a physician.

that said, you have huge red flags. you changes are exceptionally low of matching based on what you are saying. I think the only way to you can secure a residency is if you somehow convince a program to take you over others that do you have these red flags. You can do so my doing a clinic rotation at a program you are interested or doing some type of research. Simply showing up is not enough, you have to be stellar.

You also need to identify why you did poorly and what you have changed so that does not happen again. No program wants someone who will not pass step 3 or not pass the board exam at the end of residency. That greatly hurts a program and they will want to limit that risk.

or perhaps it is time to consider another career rather than continuing to invest your time and money. i have met a few people who wasted 5+ years of their life trying to finish medical school and get stuck at passing usmle's.

So .... you went to SGU X 2 yrs? Failed step 1 multiple times. Took 4 yrs off. Then reapply back to a Caribbean school. So a total 6-8 yrs? Wow.... honestly, I probably would’ve apply to P.A school Instead. Your chances are pretty low. But never say never. Dr. Ching that use to teach with PASS program failed step 1 like god know how many times... and is now practicing in Las Vegas in FM.
