    Residency takes away my time

    Advertisements

I know that being busy comes with the profession. However, I feel guilty that I don't spend enough time with my family and my boyfriend. I think that my lack of time is driving my boyfriend away as well. To those who have relationships while doing their residencies, how do you make your relationships work? Can you provide any tips which can salvage my relationship? Thanks!

I understand how you feel. I'm also busy but It's quite tough to find quality time with my husband but we need to think of a way. Communication is very important in any relationship to work. You also deserve a rest and take some time off from your regular routine. Go out with your boyfriend once in a while.

I think, you only have to learn managing your time. Constant communication with your boyfriend is relevant to your relationship.

I am also quite convinced now that having more sexy time with him might help our relationship. Do you believe in that too?

residency is hard and even afterwards when you get a job it can get even busier. I think it is important to have a partner that is understanding that you will be busy and not as available as others not in medicine. spending time with them is important but if they are not happy with your busy schedule it may very telling about the relationship in general. I'm with someone who is very understanding that there could be a week where I'm insanely busy and barely around while other weeks I have more time; if they were not that understanding it would be an overall unhappy relationship.
