    Are DO's really displacing IMGs?

Everyone is saying that DO's are taking the spots traditionally attained by US-IMGs. Are there any valid statistics, or is it just an increased amount of applicants in general that's placing a challenge? I'm curious if PDs prefer to take DOs over IMGs now.

DO's are preferred over SGU/AUC/Ross kids easily man... I applied to a 100 Psychiatry places, and got 12 IV's. A DO with my same score will apply to 20 places and get 20 IV's. The train is dead.

I'm sorry you didn't match. It seems like psych was rough across the board for everyone this year, and applicants were weeded out if they did too many IM rotations and appeared like psych was their backup. I don't know how much of your experience correlates to the big picture of PDs preferring DOs over IMGS however. Hopefully you will match next year. Are you willing to do FM?

It's not just Psych. I see my FM friends. They match alright. But compared to the stigma against DO. They have a huge fight. It's only a $1000 deposit. I say forget it, go DO or PA route.

    Hey thxleave,

Sorry to hear you didn't match !!

I have been following your posts for a long time, always right with your suggestions .

I heard Psych this year was horrible for IMGs, ppl starting calling it "the new derm" .

You'll do okay next year !

For everybody else who is still debating : go US MD and DO. No doubt about it!

I think it's just that we are getting pushed out by the DO's. It's bad for us.

Not just for Psych. But think about IM/FM also. Know some people with scores that were decent a year or ago, now can't even get FM.

Know a guy with 210's/210's 1st pass everything, not matching FM this year! He applied to 100 places, and only received 3 IV's. I mean yeah scores are kinda low, but you expect him to at least match somewhere with US citizen ship and from SGU.

As the spots dry up it seems that it will only get more and more difficult.
