    IMG matching in US/Canada ?

    Advertisements

    Hi,

As I am attempting to find more info in regards to residency and matching process , I couldn't help but notice that there is not too much recent information on these subjects.

Maybe I am not looking in the right place, but if you have useful links and you don't mind to share I would appreciate it.
I am a Canadian studying at Ross and would like to know how others managed to study in medical school and prepare at the same time for the USMLEs and for CARMS (Canadians).

At this point I don't see how I'm going to be able to do anything else besides studying all day long for my Minis'
When did you all start studying for the first step? How about Canadians who wanted to do residency/match back home?

I would like to get some ideas as to how to best plan my exams during school.

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thanks !

Well most people say that the USMLE is quite similar to the Canadian boards. The Step 1 has no equivalent in Canada, but the Step 2 CK is more or less similar to the MCCEE minus a few Canadian epi stats and different measurements.

So I would just advise you start studying for Step 1 asap and step 2 after your Step 1.

If you really want to match in Canada you'll need to do electives in Canada. You can find info on that from all Canadian medical school websites, although UBC isn't really open to Caribbean students for electives.

However I have seen Caribbean residents in Canada even in some of the most competitive fields imaginable (ENT) so it is possible. Canada doesn't discriminate, they just want a good resident and if you have the stats and personality to show you could very well match.

How many applications are good for an EM match? Is 120 too much?
