    should I try SOAP?

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,

I was late to register with the main match this year, so I have a question: if I only now register with NRMP, can I participate in SOAP?
From reading NRMP's eligibility for SOAP, I do understand, that SOAP participants must be "unmatched" to receive the list of unfilled programs.

Therefore, it means I have to apply to a few programs (knowing that the program's deadlines for applications are long gone), just to receive "unmatched" status.

Just wanted to hear your opinion: do you think I should invest into going trough the process NOW, this late?

Had anyone done that? And for how many programs do I need to apply to be "unmatched" and eligible for SOAP? And if I start now, would I be on time for SOAP day?

    Thanks!

Regardless of your eligibility for SOAP, your chances of getting lucky in SOAP is slim. Of the 3000+ unmatched FMG last year, less than 80 received positions in the SOAP. The number for unmatched IMG was much higher but around the same number received offer in SOAP. So I'd recommend against going for it

why not go for it? You only have to apply to one program. If you have everything together you might as well go for it. It'll cost you around a 100 bucks to register for the NRMP

you will need to register and fill out an ERAS application as well since SOAP utilizes the ERAS application.

    Hi, Thank you for reply.

You've mentioned that I have to apply to one program? ONe program only? I thought there is a minimum number of programs to apply to when participating in the main Match.

Could you please let me know in more detail?

    Thanks!!
