Texas residency requirements for license coming from SGU

    Advertisements

So I fell in love with a program in Texas and I just wanted to make sure I have everything for licensure. I remember SGU saying you needed a 4th year peds rotations in which I'm doing Peds emergency med and a family medicine rotation somewhere that has residents which I'm doing in Miami, Fl at the center for Haitian studies. I tried to contact SGU but of course no answer. Any help is much appreciated.

please look for the thread here about texas licensure…the rep from the texas board posts about what is needed for texas approval…

in a nutshell though, you need to do ALL (well 72 weeks worth) rotations at ACGME or AOA (though the AOA may be for DO students) residency programs and MUST be done in specialty specific programs (i.e. you have to do a cardiology rotation where they have a cards fellowship, nit just an IM residency). You need to do a family medicine rotation but no longer need a neurology rotation for texas licensure.

the most important thing is that you will need to graduate by may at the latest (thats why there is an april graduation date now) to make sure you get all the paperwork done to be able to work by july….texas will not even process your license application until you have your ecfmg certificate in hand…and that takes about 2 -4 weeks after you get your diploma.

So far I seem to be ok based off what your saying. The hospital I'm doing medicine subspecialty rotations is a training site for fellows and thats where I've done pretty much my entire 3rd and 4th year. The peds EM rotation has a fellowship program there as well. I'll be done at the end of April for a May graduation date as well. Hopefully that should be good I've tried going back to find that thread you mentioned but I haven't seemed to find it and I'm trying to to check the texas medical board website as well. Thanks again for the help I really appreciate it and everything you do for the forum.
