    2015 Match

    Advertisements

I know this might be premature, but I like to think ahead. My goal is to start clinicals by December of this year, but for monetary reasons, I'll probably have to start in January of 2014. Do I have a shot at making the 2015 match if I start in December, or January? Deep down, I know the answer is probably no, but I'd rather hear it from you guys. If I have to go for the 2016 match, how do you suggest I go about filling in the gap? Thanks.

Logistically, I don't think it's possible let alone rushing CK, CS, and doing applications. You need 80 weeks of clinical rotations. If you manage to book rotations straight through the year, that is 52 weeks assuming you start Jan 1st. You then need 28 weeks in 2015. 28 weeks is 7 months which has you finishing in July which is when you need to start residency. For ECFMG cert you need to finish by May anyway to allow for processing. It just won't work. Sorry.

Thanks for the response Salama. Our school actually requires 72 weeks of rotations, but even then, that would mean I'd have to book rotations without any breaks until May of 2015. Sigh...
