    2014 Match

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently scheduled to take my step 1 exam in the first week of July. My aim is to match for 2014. Do you think I will make it (assuming I do my rotations with no breaks)? I know I need to focus on my exam right now, but I can't help but think ahead a little bit. I'm starting to worry that I won't make my goal. If I could get some advice/help/reassurance it would be much appreciated. Thanks and congratulations to everyone who matched this year.

If everything is SUPER efficient -

    Step 1: July 2012
    Step 1 results: August 2012
    Start of rotations: September 2012
78 weeks of cores and electives back to back: March 2014 completion

Keep in mind you have to sit for Step 2 CS and CK. So yea, it's doable if you're lenient and schedule yourself in different cities to complete your cores. BUT if you want it to happen, you need to make sure you're on top of things every day until you graduate. G'luck.

but remember you are going to want to take CK and CS BY august of next year so you have scores by sept (CS really by June) so you have to be able to get cores done by may to be able to take time off to study or organize yourself throughout the next year so you don't have to take time off...so that is 32-38 weeks of cores in 42 weeks...is doable but tight...you need to be on top of things.

^ Absolutely. Though many write CK without a core or two and do rather well, it's not ideal (but may be necessary for the OP if the goal is to match in 2014). Also, if s/he rocks Step 1 that puts them in a much better position come match season if they're unable to schedule certain electives. It's going to take a lot of effort on the OP's part.

Thanks for the responses. But I have to admit, your posts have increased my anxiety lol. That being said, now that I know the challenge I face, I will make sure I prepare myself accordingly.

Sorry that wasn't our intention. The bottom line right now is something you mentioned in your opening post. As good as it is to have foresight, none of that will matter if you don't do well on Step 1. If you do, whether it's 2014 or 2015 you'll have a successful match. Let that be your motivation, get off the interwebs and study your booty off.
