    Available post-match + post-scramble residencies for July 2011?

    Advertisements

    Hello all,
I am a 4th year FMG medical student from ROSS who is about to graduate in June 2010. Although I am graduating quite soon, I was unable to match into any spots for 2011. I was unable to match anywhere during the scramble. At this point, does anyone know any other unfilled spots for July 2011, besides those listed at the nrmp.org site? Also, what is your opinion about doing a Navy or Air Force medical residency? For non-military and military residencies, I'm interested in a PGY-1 position in IM/FM/EM/Surgery/anything, except for Psych.

    More info about myself:
    Step 1 228/95 (1st try)
    Step 2 CK 197/81 (1st try)
Step 2 CS Passed (2nd try)
    GPA: 3.2

    About the Step 2 CS:
Long story short: I failed the Step 2 CS on 1st try. When I found out that I failed the first time, I couldn't schedule the 2nd try until Jan 2011. Thus, my entire residency application got messed up completely, and I didn't get any interviews during the regular MATCH 2011 season. I re-took the Step 2 CS, with much better results.

I would greatly appreciate anyone's help with this. Please advise me by replying here or by sending me a PM.

    Thanks in advance,
    Cardiazem

EDIT - About to graduate in June 2011, NOT 2010. Sorry for that typo!

you could always try residencyswap.com or go to those less heard of residency forums like prep4usmle, usmleforums, etc. and search there.

best bet is going to a place where you want to end up and do observerships there and then reapply for 12. i know a few of the nyc hospitals have off cycle matches.

    best of luck.

If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

Military residencies are excellent, but as an FMG/IMG you are not eligible for a military residency. The military residencies are extremely competitive, and they are only available to physicians who are graduating from USUHS (the uniformed services medical school) or other US medical schools via HPSP (the military scholarship for civilian medical schools). There are not even enough military residency positions for these graduates, however, and a good number of them end up completing civilian residencies and then serving out their service obligation afterward.

Assuming you match in 2012, and your interest in military medicine remains, then you can contact the military branches about coming into the military as a physician. However, they will not allow you to join until after you have completed your internship year. As an FMG/IMG with ECFMG certification and a completed internship year, you can apply for the FAP program, which offers you additional money (a monthly stipend plus an annual lump sum of $20-30k during your CIVILIAN residency) in exchange for years of service after residency.

Many people assume that military residencies are some sort of backdoor into GME and that they are available simply to anyone with a willingness to serve, but nothing could be further from the truth.

By the way: I meant, I plan to graduate in June 2011, NOT June 2010. Thanks for pointing that out.

Anyways, I am still interested in hearing more input/advice regarding my situation. So, keep the comments going...

    Help!!!

    hi all,
I am in a similar situation, as i also didnt make the match, though i got 3 years of hands on clinical experience and graduated five years ago but my scores are not too impressive with multiple attempts in all the steps except step 2 cs.
learnt there usually exist emergency spots b4 july n some hospitals axept off cyle.
please can some one help out with a kinda list of these hospitals and how to go about looking out for this spots. As i had just upgraded my imigration status to permanent residency and as such would start anytime without need for visa sponsorship.
please any assistance and advice would be apreciated.
    thanks all

Your resume has many red flags but you might try residentswap.org. Good luck.
