Night float systems are wonderful. We have one at my program. It saves you from being on call q3, q4, etc. Night float will cover the service overnight during the week, and the rest of the residents do the weekends (either you are assigned certain weekends or you work it out amongst yourselves). In essence, you do your night float month(s), thus you don't have to be at the hospital overnight for the rest of the year (except for weekend call). It's nice!
