    unmatched residency spots

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone, I had a question ,
if a hospital has several unmatched spots, does this mean that the left over spots went to scramble, and if so, is this a possible negative indicator about the program? I'm assuming the answer is yes, but i still appreciate your input, particularly those of u who have gone through match recently and may have more insight into this
    thank you

if there are unmatched spots then the spots enter the scramble and could be filled via the scramble

it depends on the program and the number of open spots they had. a program may have 1 spot left open, which may mean nothing in regards of the program....but if there is a program that every year has 1 or more spots left open for the past 3 years or so...then that may indicate the program has issues

If you fail at AUC, SGU, or Ross why not transfer to SMU, if you fail at SMU, why not try another SMU.

what is listed in the match are matches done thru the NRMP

programs have to report their quote of position prior to the match starts

so for instances if program X has 15 positions and it prematchs 5 positions, it will report to the NRMP that has 10 positions

therefore, if in the match it fills 9 programs, it will show 9 match, 1 unfilled, however this is not including the 5 that were prematched already

if you check the freida site, it will give you the total number of residents and you can use that with the NRMP match data to determine how many were prematched
