    Upset and depressed(need advice)

    Advertisements

I'm a 4th year Saba student looking to match in FM in 2008. Unfortunately, I found out I just passed CK with a 185/75. Also, I got a 188/77 on Step 1. Obviously, I'm very upset. I studied 3x as much for CK as step 1. I did USMLEworld twice and did pretty well at it. I read all of blueprints for OB, blueprints for peds, CRUSH and anything else I could get my hands on. When I left the test center I honestly thought I did pretty well. Now this. I think my strategy now is to go scorched earth and apply to about 100 FM programs who accept minimal scores. The rest of my application is pretty good. I have a good G.P.A. from the island, a decent amount of volunteer work, an observership in FM, and pretty strong comments about my clinical knowledge from my rotations. I'm also American btw. The only thing that suks are my board scores. If I apply to that many programs what do you think my chances are of getting 10 interviews? I don't care where I go. Rural is fine. At this point I just need a job. Any advice appreciated.

personally, i think your chances are very good to get at least ten interviews for FM if you apply to 100 programs. you are also forgetting that there is a positive out of your usmle transcript. something that many people do not have the advantage of. it is that you passed on the first time for both exams. this is a big plus in many programs. keep your head up. the tests are in the past. dont worry, you should get a residency somewhere.

Hey I would not be depressed - you passed on the first time each exam. Your grades are good. While it is true you may not get into the best and most competitive residencies, I think you will do well and find a good ones for you. I think you need to focus on the positives in your situation. Don't be suckered into taking the first thing offered. There are many people with less qualifications who get good residencies each year. Be one!

I call it like I see it. I am not paid by ValueMD or any school. Nor do I recruit for any school.
