    Advertisements

Hi Can someone tell me a web site that will tell me which programs are IMG friendly so I can have some idea if I have a shot. Someone said that Oregon is not and should not even consider. How do i find out this info and the step 1 score requirements. Thank you

Oregon Health Sciences University is a long shot, mostly only take US grads. But there are 3 other programs.

Here is most every residency program in the US, and their requirements for IM. it's mostly all updated, there are a few changes recently to some programs.

oh and one more thing... if you want permanent licensure in oregon one day, better do green book rotations for EVERYTHING, even electives.

that should be the rule no matter what.
as for img friendly- doesnt matter; sure look at some places as to be sure you've got a safety, but apply where you want to go and see what happens. there's always a first in all plces that take imgs.

    Still don't understand

Hi Thank you for the responses but I am still confused about which programs will and which will not except FMG graduates. I saw Oregon listed but it did not really state that it did not except FMGs. Do I need to call the programs I am interested in and find out? What about Colorado,Denver Washington Seatle,Vermont, How do I know which are the Safe so programs. I am sorry that I don't know this info but could someone direct me to some things I should read about choosing Res program. Thank You

I've talked to the program secretary over there at Oregon, and she said that out of the 90 positions last year, only 2 were IMGs. that just gives you the odds. no program will just come out and say, "we do not accept IMGs" to my knowledge. but you can find out by word of mouth that some are, and some are not. some programs like to boast how few IMGs they have, which to some US students makes them think these programs are so much better (not true by the way). whereas other programs might be 50% IMGs, i would consider this IMG friendly. even 30% IMG is somewhat friendly. 95% IMG programs, well, those usually have problems, no offense.

University of Washington (Seattle) program, you will find similar odds as Oregon. Sorry, that's the way it is. But remember, there are other programs in Oregon and Washington, not all that many, but there are others that seem to be more friendly than the 2 previous programs. Denver shouldn't be a big deal.

Funny you mention Vermont, they are one of those states that follows the CA list to the T, but no one ever talks about it b/c it's so small. I'm not sure about residency, but for permanent licensure after residency, you should go to a CA approved school (ROSS, SGU, AUC, SABA).

some places that say they dont take imgs- do.
    1) remember there is a difference btween fmg and img and
    2) they want often to discourage weaker students/from weaker schools but will take for instance ross or sgu.
so take with a grain of salt. some simply wont take offshores (hopkins doesnt typically but has made excpetions- and they known take sgu ross etc for fellowship)_
