Hi, I am from Venezuela and Im in my fifth year of med school, I planned to get a traumatology residency in the US, but soon after reading some posts I realized that in the US you dont have that specialty, just orthopedic surgery, my question is, am I right?

Orthopedic surgery is what we call "traumatologia" in spanish. By the way it is an extremely hard residency to get in USA.

I don't know why you are saying that "Orthopedic surgery is what we call traumatologia" because Orthopedic is a different thing than traumatology, the last one only deal with trauma (obvious eh?)…..on the other hand Orthopedic deals with all kinds of muscleskeletal affections, not necessary caused by a trauma. In several other countries in the America Continent that specialty is called ”Ortopedia y Traumatologia” (Orthopedic and traumatology). …….and yes Orthopedic is very difficult to get in the USA, but you can do general surgery that is less competitive, then do a fellowship on trauma and at the end you are going to be a trauma surgeon which is what you have been talking about.
