    switching programs

Hi guys, I just wanted to ask if when you get into a residency program that you are not too crazy about and then you want to switch to another program and specialty, can you do it? Is there any penalty for breaking the contract? And do you have to go through the match again?

Depends on the length of the contract that you signed, and, on whether or not the program is ok with you leaving. I am planning on changing, my contract was for one year, my director is very supportive, and yes, usually you do have to go through the match again. However, there are ways to get credit for the rotations you have done.
