I had a question and this seemed like the appropriate thread to ask it. Is there anywhere we can get info about what percentage of students who graduate from a carib med school get residency? I have friends in a lot of carib med schools, including sgu and smu who did not match. just want to know where i can find statistics and also find out why the people who didnt match, didnt match.

i think i would call bayshore for this one.

and a person that didnt match can be for various reasons, but basically i would think that they didnt meet/satisfy the scores or whatever criteria the residency required

Theres no official data for carib grads. Many schools like SGU, Ross, etc quote match rates of 90+%. The average US match rate (american grads from american schools) has been around 94% for the last several year. The match rate for IMG's is about 50% per year, but another 20-30% find positions outside the match. Here's a link to an OFFICIAL data from 2005 match

    https://services.aamc.org/Publicatio...=189&pdf_id=68

As you can see american grads have match rates 90+% in most specialties. While IMGs/DOs/doctors (independent applicants) have match rate from 30-60% depending on specialties (ortho and peds respectively)...

yeah, most ppl who don't match usually don't apply to enough programs, or have multiple attempts on steps, or have unrealistic ambitions (neurosurg, ophth, ortho, etc.). this is what i have seen/heard.
the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides and a dark wind blows. the government is corrupt and we're on so many drugs with the radio on and the curtains drawn. we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine and the machine is bleeding to death.

    family practice

I am very thankful for those whose passion it is to do family practice. A yearly visit, a good track record of preventative medicine, and no need to see a specialist my goal. Lowly isnt a word I would want my physician to hear himself described as.
