    Advertisements

Just wondering if anyone has gotten new interviews since Nove 1st when ERAS wsent the final Deans letter etc to the hospitals to which you applied?
When you become my age you will realize all of the hard work and studying was worth the effort.
"60 years young" another 60 to go if my doctor sons keep me alive with free prescriptions!!

My husband is still waiting on about 2/3rds of the programs he applied to. He's only heard back from 1 school since Nov. 1st.

I apply on Oct. 30th to 35 programs!! On nov 2nd got two rejections! The funny part is that those rejections were from backup programs..( very low tier-I don't even want to match on those programs)
Yesterday I received my first interview. A middle-tier programs I kindda like!! So I pretty happy about it!!
    My stats are:
From a Central America medical school
    Totally FMG - need visa
    Step 1 92/227
    Step 2 CK 99/253
    have ECFMG certificate already!
2 LOR from American Doctors and 2 from Doctor of my country...all of them pretty strong.
Some research in my country. Now 3 years out of medschool.

Excellent scores. You should get many interviews.

I hope so Singer!! The thing is, I think low-tier programs start sending interview invitations fast because they want to offer prematches fast. This is one of the messages:
"Date 11/02/2006 01:32 PM Application Status
MessageThank you for your application to the Internal Medicine Residency Programs at XXX in Chicago, Illinois. The Selection Committee has filled all of our allotted interview slots and, unfortunately, we are not able to offer you an interview at this time. However, we maintain a waiting list for each interview date and may contact you in the future if interview slots become available due to cancellations, etc.

We wish you all the success in the upcoming match. Again, thank you for your interest in our residency programs and for your participation in the application process."

I mean, that's what I think might happen with this kinnda community hospitals.
So, i'm praying that i'm right (that more competitive programas don't fill their interview slots so early) and i'll receive some interviews from the top tier programs in my list in a couple of weeks.

Eritrocito, I think you might be right.
    Something similar happened to me.
I submitted in the first week of September.
Up until the third week of October I only received 3 invitations.
Those were from mid to lower-tier programs.
After that came rejections. Most of them around late October/first 2 days of November. Mostly from some programs I didn't really want to go to anyways - like Wisconsin or Iowa.
And just this week I got most of the best invites:
    UCSF, JHU, Mass General.
So you never know. Some people told me they received invites up until mid-December. So keep your head up.

I basically haven't heard from preliminary programs with an exception of 2. That worries me because what if I don't have enough prelim interviews to match?

BTW, did I mention that I'm applying for anesthesia?

Venus, CONGRATS on those 3 interviews. It's still early so I think you'll maybe receive some more!! May I know your stats please?? My wife want to apply to anesthesia next year.

Today is Nov 11th, 12 days after my aplication and I have only 1 interview and 3 rejections (2 of them from those low tier hospitals and 1 from a University hospital in New Jersey). I know my numbers sound pretty good, but still don't gettin' much interviews!! will my visa needs be affectin my application?? Will that be because I apply too late?? or do you guys think I should apply to more programs?? ( I applied to 37 already!! all supposly IMG friendly!! - not much money left in my bank account!!)
I have a friend from medschool, he applied the same day as me and have similar USMLE scores, but is a Permanent Resident and he has already 4 interviews!!!!
I cannot help to be worried!! this process get into your nerves!!
it's good to know that they send interviews up to december!!
    Keep the good work guys!!
    Good luck!
    C

    Eritrocito...

You should definitely keep a close eye on deadlines for applying to various schools. After my husband had his application in about three weeks and wasn't hearing from as many programs as he'd prefer, he applied to more programs. Luckily most schools deadlines have yet to pass.
