    Has anyone used IMG Prep???

    Advertisements

    Hi all,

There is a training consulting company called IMG prep that allows IMGs to obtain externships around the states. HAS anyone used their services????

It costs about $5500 for a 3 month externship that is HANDS ON PATIENTS... it is at hospitals that are affiliated with Emory Hospital at Atlanta Georgia.

I am a bit skeptical of this program because its hard to believe I'm going to get hands on training (only have step 1 not US medical grad). its a lot of money and want to know if anyone had used IMG prep before?? It would REALLY help to talk to some people who have!

So please give me info if you have any!

    Thanks!!

    IMG prep

i personally have not used this service, but it sounds fishy to me. i'm a 4th year medical student and am doing my clinical rotations right now. i've seen img externs around doing their observership. almost all the time, they are not allowed to do anything hands-on because of legal issues. externs have no insurance coverage, so hospitals don't like to let them do anything hands-on because it puts the hospital at a very high risk legally.

The best thing for you is to get a real U.S. rotation. If you're school doesn't set these up in the U.S. for you, you simply need to ask any physician that works with IMG students. It should not be hard to get a U.S. rotation. After all these doctors are making about $500 to $2500 from the foreign medical school anyways to take you as a student.

    Don't use a third-party.

I happen to be using them

I will tell you about my experience,
I just started my rotation, it is in a University Hospital and I just met my team. I happen to be one of 6 students I just got my ID from security and I did 4 hours today, I have paid 6,800 dollars. I could not get any loans because I have f1 visa. To be honest I feel a little overwhelmed because they are mostly American in my group but I was told to be confident and it will work out and I think maybe its not great being the only foreigner but it is a very good place so far and I will be here for 1 month next month a different floor. I already have my personal statements done, which look very good, so we will see but it is a very good place and it is inpatient and I have my own policy to cover me because I was nervous I was with my brother in law in his practice in a clinic and with no coverage I was really not comfortable and I think he was not comfortable. I would like to know how many programs do you guys think is acceptable to apply to? I will apply for Internal Medicine and Family Practice. If anyone has any advise now for me or I can help anyone please email me.

So far for me so good
