sara, please give people time to answer. 29 minutes is not a reasonable amount of time to let people who might help chime in.

I suggest your post your question in the sdn forum The Student Doctor Network . There is a dedicated pathology forum there full of pathologists and pathology residents.

My husband is in the process of applying to Pathology. When you choose the various schools you want to apply to via ERAS they will list the programs each school offers. If you only want Clinical Path then that's all you check.

    What exactly are you asking?

If you want to apply to a CP only program that's three years.
If you want to apply to an AP only program that's also three years.
If you want to apply to a combined AP/CP program, that's 4 years.
Some programs offer an AP/NP (Neuropath) track that is also 4 years.
Some programs allow you to design your own track. That can be 4 or more years.

Pick up the ACGME green book and research what programs offer and which will best fit your career goals.

    Good luck.

Just wondering, how do you know you want to only do Clinical PAthology? Do you have anything specific field in mind? The microbiologist whom i'm working with now, did the 4 yr AP/CP program but only did the minimal requirements for AP and the rest CP months. She eventually only did her CP boards and went into micro.

Most AP/CP programs will offer you a CP only program, though they don't want to admit they will. ;-)

    good luck,

Yes, i'm a PGY-2 path resident as my signature states.

My first year was quite hectic and i've only now realized that it was due to ACGME violations. I've gained alot of experience and seen a variety of specimens. There is absolutely no patient contact but reading of charts, looking up histories is everyday work. Autopsies are a part of the job so you really need to enjoy it to some extent if you plan on going into the field.

Yes, i'm in a combined program. My 2nd years is solely Clinical Pathology as my first year concentrated on Anatomical.

As i've stated to another, if you are an FMG/IMG you need to apply to as many programs as possible, and if you are an AMG, then you can apply to as many as you feel you need to.

    good luck,

    A.
