    anesthesia residency

    Advertisements

I am an IMG, I studied in Italy and I am almost done with residency there (next november). I am going to USA for a research fellowship next december, I was wondering about USMLE scores you need to enter an anesthesia residency in USA and if it is possible for an IMG (not american citizen) or if it is becoming increasingly competitive. If anyone can help, I would be really grateful. Have a nice day you all!

gas is kinda competitive these days. as there is no cutoff USMLE marks (i.e., many factors are involved), but you should be in the 90s for a start. i'm not saying it's impossible if you scored 88/86/P on your 3 exams. but 95/96/P looks tons better.

    Hmm, I'm not sure anymore.
I scored 98 and 99 on step 1 and 2 respectively and applied for anesthesia all over the country and I haven't heard anything back yet.
    Not even one interview invite.
Being a foreign grad sucks but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it. I though I did my best - scored high on USMLE, got really good letters from anesthesia attendings, applied widely.
    What else can I do???

Yeah, I'm aiming for the 2007 match.
I know it's early, but people are getting interviews left and right.
I know they are american grads but that doesn't ease up my mind...
I think that what really hurts my application is my immigration status.
I'm currently adjusting status which means I'm in the middle of nowhere.
Not a green card holder but don't need a visa either.
    I'm in a limbo...

Can I do my residency in Europe?

Hi - I'm a US medical student, and am interested in moving to Italy, France or Switzerland for personal and family reasons. Is it possible to get a residency spot in one of those countries? Is my US medical degree valid? Where can I find out more info?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
