wHY INTERNAL MEDICINE IS GETTING SO HARD?

Now days everybody wants to do internal medicine, in the past the positions for this area was allways abailabel for IMG.

Now the thing nobody wants is Family practice, and it has a lot of open and even unfilld positions

What about General Surgery, I remember in the past it was very dificult to get inn, now is more easy.

Last but not least when is the LATEST to aplly for residency?

well, not sure. But the trend right now is FP programs are closing, and EM programs are popping up. I guess patients would rather go to the ER than go to their private physians! just kidding...
It's more likely that the uninsured are using the ER's as their PMD's, which is why there is such a huge patient overload in ER's now a days.

why do we need fp's anyway? What can they do that an IM doc can't?

last time i visited a doc, it was at an internist's office.

obgyn exams, pediatric exams.....in big cities there isnt a huge demand for them but in rural areas they are the perfect fit. I'm not thinking of fp at all, however, i definitely saw some that i would trust my entire family with.....i have not seen an im doc i would want to treat my kid or do obgyn exams

it's not that they can't, it's just that their training doesn't typically go there. if you don't like doing peds exams, or obgyn exams, IM might be the right fit for you

Its out of their field of training for IM docs to be treating peds or obgyn or delivering babies. Of course anyone who has ever looked in an ear can recognize otitis media.....im talkin about real peds problems. Of course they trained in med school and maybe even part of their residency but if they havent used it for 10 years they will not know it as well as someone in that specialty.
