Absolutely everyone in the MATCH this YEAR should read this publication

This is the best thing I have seen so far, at least statistics wise in answering:
What score do I need for...?
How many places should I apply to...?
How many places should I rank...?
and any other "what are my chances" questions.

So according to this lots of FMGs matched into IM/Peds??? I thought combined programs are hard to get into.
I thought Family med would be the one where ppl matched the most....Interesting.

There is one very serious problem with the data regarding IMGs. See page 12.

AAMC does not recieve these scores until the international medical graduates pass Step 3. As a result, Step 1 scores are missing for more than 5000 applicants in the All Others category. This fact may bias the resulting statistics, because an applicant who already has completed the full set of licensure examinations may not be representative of all applicants in the All Others category.
In other words, the All Others data included in the report does not allow IMGs to draw any conclusions based on their Step 1 score.

In addition, it does not cover the 2,000 or so IMGs who gain a residency outside the match.

US Seniors are allopathic US students, all of whom are required to participate in the match. (All Others are everyone else who is not: DOs, IMGs, 5PW, Canadians, past US grads)

I never knew that 2000 spots are filled outside the match that would mean that 20/75 = 25% of IMG's or FMG's go outside the match?

I dont doubt you but I would like to know where you get this data...?

By my calculation it is actually closer to 1/3. We know from the JAMA research (and the ECFMG has also mentioned it, but I don't have the time to find the link) that about 6,000 IMGs (both USIMGs and FMGs) without previous US GME get PGY1 spots. However, if you look at the match stats, you find that only about 4,000 IMGs actually "match" via the NRMP. The remainder pre or post match.

Do students who pre match only do it at hospitals where they have done a clinical rotation so they are a known entity. Do all US Hospitals particpate in the pre-match or only the lowere echelon group?
