    Queston about pre-match and ROL

    Advertisements

So I was wondering if some program offers a prematch to someone, is it a good idea to not accept it at that time but tell those ppl that u'll rank them high on your list and hope that they'll rank u high too?
Anyone knows if u don't accept a pre-match position do those ppl later on rank u high or not??
hmmm.....I don't know if my question is dumb or what.....but I geuss u can tell how lost I am. I'll appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    No

If you dont accept the pre-match then it cpuld be offered to some one else after you. Most likely you wont be able to get the same position threw the match.
i know my cousin which was offered Pre-macth surgery after ESU, but he didnt accept waiting for Radiology to hit, Radiology never hit, nor did the surgery he refused. He ended up getting family medicine in Minnosota University.

    HE was sooooooo duuumb

It depends what your goals are. Most prematches are for scut work - non competitve residencies. By non competitive - that means you are trusting the most important part of your medical education - to a place where you may not learn any more than what you walked in with after three years.

Imagine - working long hours repeating the same day over and over again. You do boring dull and repetive work. Sort of like day one see 20 patients with jock itch - day two - see 20 patients with jock itch and so on...for three years.

Do a search this topic has been well covered in many threads on VMD.

if the offer comes from the best place you interview, its a no-brainer. if not, run away. every single one of my friends who took a pre-match ended up hating the place and leaving after a year. the program i ranked number 1 and matched into, during the interview, i asked for a pre-match offer. the PD pretty much summed it up. "we dont have to offer pre-matches, we are a good program". pre-matches tend to get offered by places that know they will never fill, and they are "running scared" trying to fill spots.

hmmm....I get it. I just wonder what if I get an offer....and i deny it and then I don't match that year....would I regret it? but then again if I end up leaving the place I prematch at then thats a waste of a whole year too ...am I right?
So these ppl who left the position they had accepted, what do they do after that. I mean do they already have a place they know they can start residency at after they leave, or do they apply for the match again?

they all found residencies who had open spots after terminating interns, people leaving for personal reasons, etc. it didnt seem that any of them had problems, though one had also gottena $10K sign on bonus for the residency and had to pay it back. (only time i had ever heard of a sign on bonus for residency!)
