To how many Residencies should I apply??

    Advertisements

    hi all,

I'm an IMG with a green card in the process of preparing for the 2007 Match. I've been wondering to how many programs I should apply?

I realize that my overall application, LORs, scores, etc. will be the real measure of whether I even get an interview, but I've been wondering if there's a minimum number of applications I should send out to increase my chances of getting a foot in the door? Even a ballpark figure would be helpful. Also, it would be helpful to just know what others are doing, as far as the number of residencies you're applying to.

Thanks -- this is a great forum btw, lots of really helpful info.

it should really depend on the specialty ur looking into. FP shouldn't need too many apps... for Surgery u would be clicking till u get arthritis.

Most people I've talked to say apply to lots of places to increase your chances. One ER physician suggested to me to apply to atleast 30 places. I know of people who applied to total 90!! places.

Average is 30-40 per discipline. Research programs who might interview you. Dont waste your money applying to Cornell or Harvard if you know can't meet their minimum requirements.

Be practical without giving away your hope and aspirations.
