To match or not to match in 2007

    Advertisements

    Here is my story....

I am an IMG from Russia of Indian descent. I took Step 1 in May and passed it with a 79/193. I know, not a good score. But here is something good, I was an honor student in Medical School and I have 6 months of Observership experience in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, and Infectious Diseases, and 2 solid LORs form US doctors. I am planning on giving Step 2 CK at the end of November and CS at the end of December.

    Questions:

Is there anyone out there who thinks I have a decent chance at matching in 2007? In other words, will I be able to get interviews with just my step 1 score?

You should be able to get interviews. I had a score lower than yours and I still got interviews and eventually matched. I made sure that my step 2 was very good because of my step 1 score. If you have an questions, pm me.

I studied and prepared for it like a boxer. 2-3 months of 10 hours/day studying. I watched kapalan videos, read the kaplan books, read 1st aid for step 2, read crush step 2 and did usmle world questions and made notecards from the questions. My step 1 was horrendous and that was my motivation. That along with helping my chances of matching.

    Hapshey,

Did you need a visa? Did you have US clinical experience?

Nah, I'm a U.S. Citizen. I went to MUA nevis and did all my clinicals in Chicago. Clincals or observerships in the u.s. are important in my opinion. It's where you will be once you match, so why not try to get some expierience in the same setting.

Family med, Atlanta Medical Center. I've never read any of the blueprints but I hear they are good. I was already reading kaplan, first aid, and crush the boards. I think those were sufficient.

    hi

I applied 2 or 3 places in florida, but was denied interviews. Most of my interviews were in the south (alabama, georgia, tennessee, and a couple in chicago)
