    Pregnant!

    Advertisements

Hi, I'll be attending a caribbean med school starting in May. My wife just found out today she is pregnant. Would it be a good idea to bring her along to the caribbean as planned? We already have two other children, and I would miss them if they all stayed in the U.S. the whole time.
Would it be a good idea to send my wife home to deliver and come back after the babies 6 week checkup?
Has anyone else dealt with a similiar situation?
    Thanks

    well...

I think delivering in the US is a better idea. If you could give the school you are going to, people could probably give you an idea of what the health care system is like. G

    pregnancy

My husband and I went to Ross with one baby...two months old at the time. About 3 weeks later, hey I was preggers!! I stayed in Dominica until the last possible minute, 8 months, then my baby and pregnant self went home. We went back to Dominica after my 6 week check up. I was home for 3 months total.
I had an ultasound while on Dominica, my US ob sent me prenatals, the student next door who was also a lay midwife measured me, we kept track of my blood pressure and weight, and last but not least we bought a fetal doppler off of ebay. I had a previous healthy preg. with no complications, so we felt "safe" in the fact that I was staying as long as I did.( I do however need C-sections) Dominca does not have the greatest health care, but if you need it, you can find it.
I guess what it comes down to is what are the risk factors involved, can you afford to fly back and forth, do you want to live by yourself when you go back to the US, or stay with family, and what island are you going to be on?
    Good luck and Congrats!!

    pregnancy

I should add to my above post that there were many pregnant women at the school. (something in the water perhaps?)They all went home to have their babies. Some left sooner than others, I was not the norm, waiting so long that is.
