    In a lot of PAIN!!

    Advertisements

My name is Richard. I read this forum often. I graduated in my with a Biology Degree, and have applied to Medical Schools. I got caught up in a fire yesterday that landed me in the ER. Worst pain in the world. I have 1st and 2nd degree burn on my hands and arms and on my entire face. I am really down and worried. Doctor said I wouldnt have scars and it would take all summer to recover. I need some people to keep me company and help me. I was giver 25mg of morphine to kill the pain yesterday. I am supposed to stay out of the sun. I was given anti biotic cream for my face. I heard about Mederma for burns and scaring. Is that better for my face or should I stick with neorosporin?

    Uplifting comments most appreciated.

    wow

I've had second degree burns before, but not as extensive as yours. I'll be praying for you. Sounds like you are a resilient person! Don't give up!

    cancer

i met a guy who was planning on going to med school until he found out he had a rare form of cancer. it took him 7 MONTHS to recover, and when he did, he lost sight of his dream to do med school. he's now doing pharmaceutical sales. DON'T loose sight of your dream, even if this turns out to be a 7 month set back. hope for your speedy recovery!

    Burns

Thank you guys for your comments. I met with another doctor today. My burns are all 2nd degree. I have to watch for infectiona nd keep them clean. He did say that they will peel in two weeks, and pink skin will set in. H e told me I will have no scars but it will take 4-6 weeks. It is so hard to stay out of the sun, and be indoors all the time. I have a different understanding for any burn patients. I am going forward with my dream to be a doctor.

I will keep you guys posted with my progress! I took some photos too, and will get them developed soon. I might post some if anyone is interested.

    pain

I spent 16 years suffering from chronic pain so severe that just taking a shower would feel like being stabbed on every inch of my body. My pain was not burn related so I can't tell you I have been where you are but I can tell you I made through when there were days I never thought I could take another minute. I have now been almost pain free for 5 years and I am living my dream of going to medical school. So dont' lose hope 4-6 weeks may seem like a lifetime but it will feel like a minute when you look back later.

    Speedy Recovery

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident. The resilience the others here have suggested and shared is the exact kind of inspiration our world should revolve around. If you don't mind, I'll keep you in prayer. I agree with what has already been stated in these posts... DON'T lose sight of your dreams!!

    Feel much better

My face has completely peeled and it looks almost 100% with no scars visible My right arms is still pink to red in color. I still apply antibiotic cream on it. Some of the skin is peeling and I am waiting for the pink areas to melanize and darken and all the old skin to peel. All in all I feel much better.
